The Maxtag is a compact device folded into the tray table in front of each shuttle seat. When unfolded, it reveals an injector tool, a small pistol-like mechanism with a needle designed for self-administration.
Passengers are instructed to inject the needle of the Maxtag into their wrist, which activates a visible Maxline around the arm.
This line becomes part of the individual’s growth path, marking their current state and warning them when they begin approaching the threshold that could trigger a Final Bosu. It is framed as a personal responsibility, a preventive measure to help individuals track and manage their own growth before it becomes dangerous.

Creator’s Note
The Maxtag was designed to create a defining moment immediately after your return from Metora. You step onto the Respawn Express, and before you can catch your breath, you are told to inject something into your own body. This act is more than a safety precaution; it is a physical signature. A mark you place on yourself, acknowledging the rules of this world and silently agreeing to live within them. You are marking your own body, showing that you are part of this system and willing to work toward a safer world. For many, it is a reassuring step; for others, it seems mas if it’s the first step giving up control.
We wanted this scene to contrast the warm, friendly tone of the Respawn Express with something deeply personal and invasive. It shows how quickly comfort can turn into compliance. Should you inject yourself?
It is a small gesture with lasting meaning, setting the tone for the world you have just returned to.
